About TEEI

We started with girls and women. We never planned to stop there.

The Educational Equality Institute is a nonprofit registered in Norway and the United States. Volunteers teach, mentor, and open doors for people whose education was interrupted. Every programme is free for the people in it, because access to education should not depend on what a family can pay.

The story

Why we exist.

Girls and women worldwide, given a path to learning and independence when nothing else offered one. That is what TEEI was built on.

It sets the order of work: what we build first, and who we build it for. When full-scale war interrupted education across Ukraine in 2022, volunteers stepped in across borders: live language practice, mentoring, and skills training, all of it free. More than 20,000 people have used these programmes so far.

We are headquartered in Norway, hold US 501(c)(3) status, and run every programme on technology we build ourselves, delivered by volunteers around the world.

How it connects

One connected path.

Nobody arrives needing a catalogue. They need a next step, and someone beside them when they take it. Each programme hands into the next, and the connection made at the start carries through to the end.

And back The handoffs are deliberate: when she is ready for more, the person who already knows her says so, and the next programme begins with an introduction, not a form. The support from her first month is still there in her last. And many who complete the path return as volunteers for the next arrival.

How we work

What stands behind every free session.

Volunteers teach, mentor, and sit with someone through a hard week. They are the programme.
Partners bring their people into the work: their colleagues teach and mentor alongside our volunteers, and the CSR Cockpit we built turns those hours into the reporting their company needs.
Technology we build ourselves: the matching, the live sessions, the credentials, the reporting behind every programme. It is what keeps the work free for everyone in it.

Participants never pay.

A learner, mid-session. This is what they look like: a webcam, a kitchen table, an hour.
