Volunteer Hours in a CSR Report: One Verified Hour
Putting volunteer hours in a CSR report? Follow one verified hour through TEEI Language, TEEI Mentorship and CSR Cockpit, from approval to your report.
The programme
On this page

An employee gives an hour on a Tuesday evening. Months later, someone in your company has to put volunteer hours in a CSR report, and that hour is one of them. Between those two moments, a lot can go wrong: a missed session, a rounded number, a spreadsheet nobody can trace.
This article follows one hour through TEEI’s programmes, step by step. It covers TEEI Language, TEEI Mentorship and CSR Cockpit, the free workspace where a company sees its employees’ contribution.
Every figure carries the time it was read. The figures come from TEEI’s published impact snapshot, observed on 18 September 2026 at 13:04 UTC.1
Step 1: Who is allowed to give the hour?
Nobody, until they are approved. An account is not approval.
A volunteer applies and completes a programme profile: the languages they speak for TEEI Language, their career field and experience for TEEI Mentorship.2 TEEI reviews each application, and nobody can be booked before approval. So the hour in this story starts with a person TEEI has already checked.
At 2026-09-18T13:04Z, 187 volunteer profiles were approved to receive requests, out of 237 in the register.3
Step 2: The hour gets booked
The approved volunteer publishes the times they can give. You set the hours; learners choose a session.2
Bookings show planned activity. Only completed sessions with settled attendance contribute to the verified totals.
Step 3: What turns time into a verified hour?
This is the step that matters for your report. The volunteer and the learner meet in a video room that TEEI runs. The room records when each person connects and leaves.
After the booking ends, those records become one number: the time both people were connected together. That shared time is the only thing that becomes hours. Four rules shape it:4
| Rule | What it does |
|---|---|
| Overlap, not booked time | If the volunteer joins at 10:00 and the learner at 10:12, the first twelve minutes count for nobody. |
| Five-minute floor | Below five minutes of shared presence, the session does not count at all. |
| Grace cap | Shared time is capped at the booked window plus 30 minutes. |
| Awaiting evidence | A booking marked completed without settled attendance is left out of the hours and published as its own number. |
The total is floored once to a tenth of an hour, never rounded up.4 We have written the full definition, with its exclusions, in a separate method post: How TEEI counts a verified volunteer hour.
The published snapshot recorded these combined totals on 18 September 2026:1
| Counter field | Value |
|---|---|
| Completed one-to-one sessions, all time | 11,984 |
| Conversation hours, all time | 9,070.4 |
| Sessions awaiting evidence, excluded from the hours | 7 |
The all-time figures combine the earlier platform with TEEI’s current platform. Historical session counts include 130 completed bookings with no measured time; those bookings contribute no conversation hours.4 The awaiting-evidence figure is the one to watch. It shows the exclusion rather than hiding it.
Step 4: The volunteer can prove it too
The same records drive TEEI’s credentials. A certificate with a verification code is issued when a volunteer meets a published programme requirement.5
At 2026-09-18T13:04Z, 624 credentials had been issued: 505 to Language learners, 98 to Language volunteers, 15 to mentees and 6 to mentors.5
The public /verify/ page lets anyone check TEEI itself, with its registration numbers, its official domain and its current programme names.6
Step 5: What does your company see in CSR Cockpit?
CSR Cockpit is TEEI’s free workspace for companies. There is no licence fee, no setup fee and no employee limit.7 We do not require a donation. A company applies online, confirms its email, and TEEI reviews the application before the workspace is set up.8 Your company then invites employees.
Cockpit does not keep its own idea of an hour. For one-to-one sessions, it counts the time the employee and the learner spent together, and only sessions with at least five minutes of shared attendance contribute to the totals.7 Records awaiting evidence stay separate.9
A manager can export reports and session records as CSV or PDF.7 Anyone can open a public demo with sample data without an account.
Explore the CSR Cockpit demo to see the report with sample data.
Step 6: The same hour in TEEI Mentorship
TEEI Mentorship runs on the same platform, so most of the chain is identical. The differences are in who gives the hour and what it is for.
| TEEI Language | TEEI Mentorship | |
|---|---|---|
| Volunteer | Adults offering conversation practice; no teaching credential required | Working professionals; mentees browse their profiles by field |
| Participant | Adult learners practising a language | People rebuilding a career: CVs, interviews, the local job market |
| Approval | TEEI review; no sessions before approval | TEEI review; no sessions before approval |
| What counts | Shared time in the room, five-minute floor, grace cap | The same rule |

One limitation belongs here. The public counter combines both programmes.4
Step 7: Check the dated record
A published snapshot lets readers check which figures a report used. The snapshot observed on 18 September 2026 records 11,984 completed sessions and 9,070.4 conversation hours.3
The snapshot also records 911 bookings marked completed on the current platform since 10 July 2026, including 594 in the 30 days before the reading.3 These are booking-status counts. Use the verified totals when you report attendance-confirmed sessions. The snapshot is published with its identifier and a digest on the impact page, so a later edit would show.
Why this matters for your company
Self-reported volunteering hours and attendance records are different kinds of evidence. A form filled in after the fact is a claim; a record of two people connected in a room is a measurement. State which one your report uses and how the hours were checked.
The hour in this article is different in three ways. It was given by an approved volunteer. It was measured as time two people spent together, not time on a calendar. And every public figure that describes it can be opened and checked by someone outside TEEI, including your auditor, your board or a sceptical colleague.
What it does not prove is what happened afterwards. A learner’s confidence, a job interview, a letter read without help: those are outcomes, and they need their own evidence. We keep the two apart, and we ask you to do the same.
If you want your employees’ hours to be this kind of hour, start with the corporate volunteering page, or apply for a free CSR Cockpit workspace. If you would rather volunteer yourself, become a volunteer.

Frequently asked questions
Does CSR Cockpit count booked time?
No. For one-to-one sessions, Cockpit counts the time the employee and the learner spent together. Only sessions with at least five minutes of shared attendance count, and records awaiting evidence stay separate.
Can the public counter show my company?
No. The public counter publishes global aggregates only. Company figures live in your own Cockpit workspace.
What does CSR Cockpit cost?
Nothing. There is no licence fee, no setup fee and no employee limit, and we do not require a donation.
Are TEEI Language and TEEI Mentorship hours counted the same way?
Yes. Both programmes run on the same platform and the same attendance rule. The public counter combines them.
