Relocating to a new country is incredibly challenging for refugees fleeing war. For Ukrainians, continuing their education or finding employment while settling into a new culture and getting familiar with a new language can make this even more complex.

The Educational Equality Institute (TEEI) recognises these challenges and runs a Mentorship Programme to help refugees through this new phase of their lives. The Mentorship Programme connects Ukrainians with expert mentors who can guide and support their educational and professional endeavours.

Objectives of the Mentorship Programme

The Mentorship Programme revolves around two key objectives:

  1. To promote the mentee’s educational, personal, and professional growth.
  2. To boost the mentee’s confidence and motivation and to provide support.

The structure of the programme is flexible, allowing for a personalised approach where mentors and mentees are matched based on their availability, interests, and goals.

Types of Mentorships

To fulfil these objectives, the Together for Ukraine Mentorship Programme offers two forms of mentorship to address these needs:

  • Student Mentorship: Mentors support student mentees as they study, providing tailored guidance as they develop new skills and build professional networks.
  • Professional Mentorship: Mentors help mentees enter the job market with feedback on CVs and cover letters, and use their industry contacts to surface employment opportunities.

The Mentorship Programme has proven invaluable. It assists refugees with their studies, helps them to find employment, and offers personalised support where needed most for each individual.

As a mentor with Together for Ukraine, you share your skills and experience with someone who will benefit from your guidance.

For a fuller picture of how the programme has grown, the Mentors for Ukraine programme overview covers the 2,000+ mentees and 400+ volunteer mentors who now use the platform. Many mentees pair career mentoring with language practice through Language Connect, building conversation confidence before discussing their professional backgrounds with mentors. The employment context behind this support sits in the analysis of employment among Ukrainian refugees: the credential gaps and language barriers that make professional guidance matter.
