In September 2022, The Educational Equality Institute (TEEI) and DataCamp Donates began a partnership to provide online learning to Ukrainian students displaced following the Russian invasion. Our partnership with DataCamp continues to deliver results.
After almost two years of collaboration, we have passed a significant milestone. 1,000+ Ukrainian students are now accepted for DataCamp scholarships and are advancing their studies across multiple learning paths. This step extends our wider work with displaced Ukrainians through data education, building on previous collaborations.
Through our programme to offer DataCamp access to Ukrainian refugees, we have seen the platform’s capacity to drive change in our learner communities. Henrik Røine, Founder and Managing Director of TEEI noted, “The feedback we get is fascinating. It’s not only about the students because those close to them also see significant changes over time. If students are improving skill sets and expanding their data knowledge, they can then inject improved income, employability, and positive experiences they’ve had with the platform back into their families and communities at home. We’re happy about the real-world progress we’re seeing in this specific learning community.”
Feedback from our students confirms the impact DataCamp has on skills and employment prospects. Our goal is to onboard 10,000+ DataCamp learners over time. We are focused on delivering quality education to underserved communities, particularly those displaced by conflict.
What learners are saying
“I’m thrilled to share that I’ve successfully completed nearly 18 courses on the DataCamp platform. Choosing the most enjoyable one is quite challenging because each course offers a long list of benefits, but I’d like to highlight the quality of the speakers: their engaging delivery are among the most enjoyable aspects. Intermediate Python is a great class, for example! The materials and the style of sharing information are outstanding. Importantly, completing the Data Analyst track helped me secure a job offer and of course I’m really happy about this! I continue to use DataCamp to stay updated and expand my knowledge of data engineering tools and I’m currently learning with the dataset’s onboarding analyst and preparing mappings. It’s really nice!”
“I’ve been learning Python for Data Science for about four years now. I was doing it simultaneously with a non-related full-time job, and the last five months since I attended DataCamp have been responsible for about 60% of my improvement. The way the courses are structured, the system that encourages you to stay on track, the suggestions and tips, and the “recaps” if you took a break from learning, all helped me gain the necessary practical experience and, just as important as the skills, the courage to start looking for a job as a data scientist!”
“I joined the TEEI DataCamp initiative in April 2024. I’m a Full-Stack developer with 8+ years of experience, but technologies like ChatGPT still looks like magic to me. Thanks to Datacamp’s courses in AI, I started to understand how everything works under the hood. Lessons are well-sized, speakers are engaging and exercises right after the lessons allow you to check your understanding. My goal now is to develop Python skills in Statistics and AI/ML directions. I’ve finished 13 courses and almost 14. Thanks so much for your diligence and initiative with this project. Currently, for me, this is much more than an education, it is an opportunity to survive and thrive!”
Inside the DataCamp platform
DataCamp offers interactive courses covering topics from beginner to advanced levels in data science, machine learning, data visualisation, and more. The platform offers practice opportunities to reinforce coding skills and assessments to evaluate your level. Curated learning paths group related courses to help learners reach specific career or skill goals, with real-world projects that let learners apply their skills.
Marianne Gillogly, Project Manager at TEEI, shared with us her thoughts: “I came on board the DataCamp project in the spring and I’m already impressed by how it truly is an ideal platform for distance learners: the impact on students’ growth is significant! Data expertise sets professionals apart in today’s job market, making high-competence data employees invaluable across all industries. The tech and start-up world is a given, but from finance to governments and NGOs, healthcare, communications, and marketing agencies: everyone needs skilled data scientists today. I see DataCamp learners continuously practicing and mastering complex skills, and demonstrating their ability to navigate and analyze data to make informed decisions. We are seeing proof that our scholarship students can contribute significantly to any organization’s success, so we’re really pleased to be able to help them succeed along their journeys.”
Where the partnership is heading
TEEI and DataCamp built this partnership to support Ukrainians whose lives are disrupted by conflict and to help them build a more data-driven future. The curriculum covers beginner to expert level across 450+ courses and projects, using real data sets and scenarios, so students gain the skills and confidence to take on future career challenges.
The DataCamp scholarship is open to any Ukrainian who wants to build data skills and a stronger future.
