Together for Ukraine brings together The Educational Equality Institute’s work for Ukrainians affected by the war, in Ukraine and around the world.

Through free education, language learning, professional skills and mentoring, we create opportunities for people to continue their studies, develop their careers and build connections in their communities. Since 2022, our programmes have reached more than 20,000 Ukrainians.

A response that grew into a lasting commitment.

We launched Together for Ukraine in 2022 in response to Russia’s full-scale invasion. Education was an immediate part of that response: keeping children connected to school, helping universities continue teaching and opening access to language learning and professional training.

The work grew to include conversation practice, digital skills, career mentoring, entrepreneurship and opportunities to connect with people in a new country. Alongside Ukrainian educators, institutions and partner organisations, we developed programmes for different needs and different points in people’s lives.

The work today.

Language, professional learning and mentoring address different needs, but they belong together. Someone developing new skills may also need opportunities to practise a language or speak with a professional in their field. Someone preparing for an interview may benefit from both conversation practice and career guidance.

Our programmes make these opportunities available alongside one another.

TEEI LanguageA place to practise the language you need.

TEEI Language connects learners with volunteers for language conversation practice. The focus is on using a language: speaking, listening and becoming more confident in the conversations that matter at work, in education and in everyday life.

Previously known as Language for Ukraine and Language Connect for Ukraine, the programme continues today as TEEI Language on our own platform.

TEEI Language CoursesStructured learning with a teacher.

Our language courses bring learners together in online classes led by volunteer teachers. Lessons, learning materials and regular practice provide a structured way to develop language skills over time.

The courses complement TEEI Language’s conversation practice. They offer a different learning setting, with teaching, coursework and a shared class schedule.

Skills AcademyProfessional learning that opens up new possibilities.

Skills Academy brings together self-paced learning, live workshops, classes and expert sessions. Learners develop digital and professional skills across areas such as data, technology, business and project management.

Learning resources include DataCamp and Google Career Certificates through Coursera. TEEI provides access and support, while the learning providers issue their qualifications: DataCamp’s Statement of Accomplishment for completed courses and Google Career Certificates for completed certificate programmes.

Three sessions coming up on Skills Academy: a workshop, a CV review clinic and an expert question-and-answer session, each with seats to take or a waitlist to join. Sample data.

TEEI MentorshipProfessional experience, shared one to one.

TEEI Mentorship connects Ukrainians with professionals for conversations about their careers. Sessions can focus on a CV, an upcoming interview, a job search, a career change or the next steps in building a business.

Previously known as Mentors for Ukraine, the programme continues as TEEI Mentorship. It gives people a way to discuss their questions with someone who understands the field they work in, or the one they want to enter.

A wider history of education and community.

Today’s programmes are part of a broader body of work. Together for Ukraine has also included education for children, assistance for universities, programmes for young people and women, and activities for families affected by the war.

Keeping children connected to their education.

Through the Online Ukrainian School, Ukrainian teachers employed by TEEI taught children abroad using the Ukrainian curriculum and an online learning platform.

Books for Kids brought Ukrainian-language children’s books to families across Europe, working with the Shevchenko Central Library for Kids. Alongside formal education, the programme kept books in children’s own language within reach.

Keeping university teaching possible.

The University Support Programme addressed the practical requirements of continuing education during the war, from hardware and software to learning systems and teaching resources.

Our programme development also included the TEEI Open University concept, designed around online university learning and collaboration with partner institutions.

Developing skills and business ideas.

Our Youth Programmes brought together education, digital skills and entrepreneurship for young Ukrainians, including those displaced within the country.

The Women’s Entrepreneurship Programme focused on Ukrainian women starting and developing businesses, with learning and mentoring spanning early ideas, business development and leadership.

  • Recovery Camps

Creating space for children and families.

Together with Ukrainian partners, including the Sincere Heart Foundation, the Recovery Camps work reached more than 4,000 children and 2,500 families.

The camps brought together learning activities, art therapy and psychosocial support for families affected by the war.

  • Buddy Programme for Ukraine

Building connections in Norway.

The Buddy Programme for Ukraine brought Ukrainians and local residents together through shared interests and everyday activities: meeting for coffee, walking, discovering a city or spending time with another family.

It added a social dimension to Together for Ukraine’s educational work, centred on friendship and cultural exchange.

Different contributions. Shared work.

Together for Ukraine brings together people and organisations with different things to contribute: teaching experience, professional knowledge, learning materials, technology and time.

  • Oxford University Press and Babbel have contributed language-learning content.
  • itslearning has provided the learning platform for courses.
  • DataCamp and Splunk have opened access to digital and technical learning.

Alongside these partnerships are the volunteers who teach, practise languages and share their professional experience. Companies contribute through employee volunteering and programme partnerships. Ukrainian educators and organisations bring the knowledge and relationships that connect the work to the communities it serves.

In August 2024, we also announced our work as a language provider to the Ukrainian Parliament.

TEEI’s role is to turn these contributions into programmes people can use: running learning platforms, coordinating courses, working with volunteers and providing participant support.

The work continues.

Together for Ukraine began with the needs of 2022. It continues through the education, language learning, professional skills and mentoring that Ukrainians can access today.

The programmes have developed. The commitment remains: free opportunities to learn, connect and move forward in education and work.
