  1. Your volunteer A volunteer you chose You choose the person. Every profile says which languages the volunteer offers, and at what level.
  2. Your time A time you picked 30, 45 or 60 minutes, on a day and at an hour that suit you, shown in your own time zone.
  3. Join on the day One button on the day The call runs on the platform itself, from a computer or a phone, for exactly as long as you booked.

The platform lists 71 languages, each with its own name beside the English one. You name yours when you sign up, then choose among the volunteers who offer it.

  1. Albanian · Shqip Find yours however you spell it Type a few letters, in either name, and the list narrows to yours. It is the same list you meet when you sign up.
  2. Ukrainian native · English fluent Every profile says what the person offers, and at what level Some volunteers offer two or three languages, and the level stands beside each one. You read the profile, then you choose.
  3. Week to week Who offers what changes New volunteers join and others take a break, so what is on offer shifts from week to week. Nobody can promise a partner for every language at every hour.

Choose a volunteer

Filter by language or topic and read the profiles. Each one says what the person likes to talk about, how others rated them, and when they are free next.

My sessions, this week: Wednesday 30 September, Olena Kovalenko, 13:00 to 13:30, 30 minutes, confirmed. Thursday 1 October, Amina Hassan, 16:00 to 16:45, requested, waiting for Amina Hassan. Pick a time

Some times are confirmed the moment you pick them. Others go to the volunteer as a request, and you hear back as soon as they answer. If there is no reply, the request closes on its own and the time is released.

Talk, then keep going

The call opens on the platform five minutes before the time and runs for as long as you booked. Afterwards your volunteer can leave you a short recap, and you can book the same person again.

You land on the platform's sign-up page. It asks why you are here, then which language you want to practise and what you like to talk about. Your level goes in your profile, so a volunteer knows where you are before you talk.

Is it free?

Yes. Signing up and using the platform are free.

Do I need to know the language already?

No. Partners work with every level, including complete beginners. Your level is part of your profile, so a partner knows where you are before you talk.

Who are the partners?

Adults who speak the language you are learning and give their time to talk with you. They come from many countries. They are not teachers, and this is not a class: it is a conversation.

Do I book a time straight away, or send a request?

It depends on the partner. Some let you book a free slot directly; others ask you to send a request first and then accept it. The profile shows which.

Can I cancel or move a session?

Yes, through the platform.

Can I book the same partner again?

Yes. If you got on well, you can keep booking sessions with the same person.

What do I need?

A computer or a phone with internet, a camera and a microphone.

How old do I need to be?

18 or older. TEEI Language is for adults, and you confirm your age when you sign up.
