What you would do
More than 8,000 people are on the waiting list for TEEI Language. Not for a course. For time with somebody who already speaks the language. Volunteers are the entire bottleneck, which is why this role never closes.
You decide how you do it:
- One to one. A learner books an hour you opened, and you work through whatever they have to get through that week.
- Language cafe. A small group over video, lighter and less exposed, for people who freeze when it is only them and you.
- Your language. English is the largest need by far. German, Polish, Italian, Norwegian, French, Spanish and Ukrainian are all asked for.
- Your hours. You open the times you can keep. Nothing is assigned to you.

Who we are looking for
- You speak the language you want to offer fluently. Any accent, any country.
- You can stay quiet while somebody hunts for a word.
- You have a quiet spot and a connection that holds for an hour.
No teaching qualification and no lesson plan. Most volunteers here are not teachers. They are people who speak a language well and turn up when they said they would.
What you get
You hear the change around the third or fourth session, when somebody stops building the sentence in their head before they say it. Volunteers who stay get a written reference from us with their hours in it.
After you apply
Someone at TEEI reads your application and replies by email. If it fits, we set up your account, you pick the format and mark the hours you can take, and a learner from the list books the first one.
